SURYA POWER INDUSTRIES EARTHING BACK FILL COMPOUND

Earthing Back Fill Compound (BFC) is a specially formulated material used in electrical earthing systems to improve conductivity and soil resistance around earth electrodes. It enhances the performance of earthing by maintaining low resistance and ensuring stable electrical grounding over time.


What is Back Fill Compound?

Back Fill Compound is a moisture-retaining, conductive material (typically a powder or granular substance) placed around the earthing electrode to:

  • Reduce soil resistivity
  • Maintain consistent low resistance
  • Protect the electrode from corrosion
  • Ensure reliable performance even in dry or rocky soil

Types of Back Fill Compounds

  1. Bentonite Clay – Expands when wet, good moisture retention.
  2. Graphite-Based Compounds – High conductivity and thermal stability.
  3. Carbon-Based Compounds – Excellent conductivity, used in high-performance grounding.
  4. Cement-Based Mixtures – Offers long-term protection and stability.
  5. Chemical Compounds (like GEM or Marconite) – Premium performance, often used in critical installations.

Application Process

  1. Excavate the earth pit or trench for the electrode.
  2. Place the electrode (copper rod, GI pipe, etc.) in the center.
  3. Surround the electrode with the back fill compound (typically 100–150 mm thickness around the electrode).
  4. Water the pit to activate and bind the compound.
  5. Cover and seal the pit.

  • Typically sold in 25 kg or 50 kg bags.
  • Complies with IS 3043:2018 and IEEE standards.
  • Should be non-corrosive, non-toxic, and weatherproof.
